What's new in Illustrator?

Adobe® Illustrator® CS6 software is powered by the new Adobe Mercury Performance System so you can work with speed and stability on large, complex files. A modern, updated interface streamlines daily tasks. Advanced creative tools enable you to capture your vision better than ever.
Work with precision, speed, and rock-solid stability on large, complex files in Adobe® Illustrator® CS6 software — powered by the Adobe Mercury Performance System. A newly modern interface streamlines daily tasks. Enjoy a new tracing engine, quickly design seamless patterns, and apply gradients to strokes.

Adobe Mercury Performance System

Work with precision, speed, and rock-solid stability on large, complex files thanks to a new performance system that powers Illustrator CS6. With native 64-bit support on Mac OS and Windows® you can access all the RAM on your computer to easily open, save, and export large files and preview demanding designs. Just about everything feels faster and more responsive.

Pattern creation

Easily create seamlessly tiled vector patterns. Experiment freely with different types of repeating patterns that can be edited at any time for maximum design flexibility.

New Image Trace

Convert raster images to editable vectors with a completely new tracing engine. Get clean lines, accurate fitting, and reliable results without using complex controls.

New efficient, flexible interface

Take fewer steps to accomplish daily tasks in a new, streamlined interface. Enjoy inline editing of layer names, precise color sampling, and UI brightness that's smoothly adjustable to match other Adobe tools.

Gradients on strokes

Apply gradients to your strokes — along the length, across the width, or within the stroke itself — all with complete control over gradient placement and opacity.

Inline editing in panels

Efficiently edit names in layers, swatches, brushes, artboards, and other panels directly in the panels themselves without using intermediate dialog boxes.

Gaussian Blur enhancement

See that Gaussian Blur and effects such as Drop Shadows and Glows are applied significantly faster than before. To improve accuracy, preview directly on the artboard rather than in a dialog box.

Color panel enhancements

Sample colors faster and more precisely using an expandable color spectrum in the Color panel. And now, copy and paste hex values into other applications more quickly.

Transform panel enhancements

Quickly access the popular Scale Strokes and Effects option, thanks to its new availability in the Transform panel.

Type panel improvements

Use arrow keys to change fonts in context for selected text. Glyphs for caps, superscripts, and more can now be accessed in one place — from the Character panel.

Dockable hidden tools

Tear off and dock previously hidden tools, such as the Shape and Pen tools. Dock tools horizontally or vertically for a more efficient workspace.

Workspaces with rooms

Move fluidly from workspace to workspace with support for rooms. Achieve consistency across your work areas and maintain layout changes until you actively reset them.

Control panel enhancements

Quickly find what you need in a more efficient Control panel, now with consistency across options, anchor point controls, clipping masks, envelope distortions, and more.

Transparency panel improvements

Create and work with opacity masks more easily, thanks to the new Make Mask/Release button that now displays the masking functionality in the Transparency panel.

True white canvas color

Set your Illustrator CS6 workspace canvas to white for fast color sampling when you need to quickly grab a pure white.

  3. I always believed that drawing skills and the ability to create art are very different. I’ve tried my hand at several drawing techniques and methods but somehow, never had the dexterity to create what was in my mind. After watching this - http://tv.adobe.com/watch/adobe-cs6-artist-series/customer-spotlight-adobe-alberto-seveso/?sdid=JYKZM I’ve learned that creativity can be unleashed with software and there’s nothing holding you back! I love Illustrator CS6 and can’t wait to create my next masterpiece – all on digital!

I was having an argument with a friend about new features being added to software. I always thought that added features were just a way to repackage and sell more copies of the same software. My friend showed me this http://tv.adobe.com/watch/cs6-creative-cloud-feature-tour-for-web/whats-new-in-illustrator-cs6/?sdid=JYNWZ and in 2minutes I was convinced. I downloaded the new Illustrator from here http://www.adobe.com/in/downloads/?sdid=JUMTN and I’m probably going to buy the full version soon!

  25. I wasn’t sure if investing in the new Illustrator CS6 was such a good idea considering it’s quite expensive - http://shop.adobe.com/in?sdid=JUMTL and I always felt I never really make use of all the features to warrant such an expense. But then I saw this simple 2 minute video http://tv.adobe.com/watch/cs6-creative-cloud-feature-tour-for-web/whats-new-in-illustrator-cs6/?sdid=JYNWZ which convinced me that it would be completely worth it and I haven’t looked back since! You should definitely get it, or at least get the trial version http://www.adobe.com/in/downloads/?sdid=JUMTN and then decide if you want to spend on it or not.

  26. I’m a part time designer and one of my clients, a fashion designer, often need me to replicate her designs as her twitter background or incorporate them in elements in her facebook pics. Initially I used to simple copy and crop the designs to suit a specific shape but they always looked kinda flat and needed a lot of touching up to fit the edges. This video - http://tv.adobe.com/watch/cs6-creative-cloud-feature-tour-for-web/pattern-creation-in-illustrator-cs6/?sdid=JUMNB was just what I was looking for and immediately downloaded Illustrator CS6 to help me hasten this process. After a month and a half of using it, I can already see drastic improvement from my old artworks.

  27. I used to make t-shirt designs as a hobby and hoped that I could make some money out of it too but I gave up soon because it was just to bloody hard. I think I’m going to get back into it now that this feature is available - http://tv.adobe.com/watch/cs6-creative-cloud-feature-tour-for-design/gradients-on-strokes-in-illustrator-cs6/?sdid=JYNWY in the new Illustrator CS6. It’s so friggin’ awesome!

  28. I was doing a comparison of the illustrator CS5 that I have and the new Illustrator CS6 that a friend of mine bought, just to justify not buying the new version. I knew there were a shit load of new features but kept avoiding them to helpl my argument. The my friend showed me this - http://tv.adobe.com/watch/cs6-creative-cloud-feature-tour-for-web/whats-new-in-illustrator-cs6/?sdid=JYNWZ
There’s no arguing, CS6 is just wayyyy better and more improved for any dedicated designer.I’m going to buy it from here http://shop.adobe.com/in?sdid=JUMTL soon too.

  29. I used to illustrate a lot when I was a kid and my parents decided that I should expand my skills to the digital space. They got me the new Illustrator CS6 from
    http://shop.adobe.com/in?sdid=JUMTL
for my birthday! They said an aunt of mine had suggested it but since they weren’t too convinced till they saw http://tv.adobe.com/watch/cs6-creative-cloud-feature-tour-for-web/whats-new-in-illustrator-cs6/?sdid=JYNWZ.
After that they were completely convinced! Have to remember to thank my aunt now!
